Home Remedies to Kill Fleas

!±8± Home Remedies to Kill Fleas

A nasty annoying pest called the flea plagues both humans and animals alike. Although there are plenty of chemicals you can buy to kill these pests, most people would rather use home remedies for fleas. Chemicals can hurt both the fleas and your pets, and could do harm to you and your children. Before there were pesticides and other flea killers, people used old-fashioned home remedies to kill fleas.

The various ways and techniques we use to get rid of fleas today do not always give us the expected results. Side effects and short-lived extermination accompany the many ways we get rid of these vile pests. Prednisone and corticosteroid are drugs that are used to remedy fleabites. However, they weaken the immune system. There are chemicals on the market that are very successful in killing fleas but they are poisonous and could pose a threat in the long-term. There are plenty of negatives to using drugs and chemicals to kill fleas. One should take note that making their homes and bodies toxic waste dumps to kill the fleas just to have them return makes no sense. Home remedies for fleas are the way to go.

Some natural ways of ridding your home of these vile creatures are to keep your house as clean as possible, indoors and outdoors, carpets and floors, and every corner of your home should be vacuumed on a daily basis. I know vacuuming everyday can be a hustle for some people, however, that's the price one must pay to keep pets. Because fleas can jump far distances, food should be covered, and all food spills cleaned up quickly. Fleas do not eat food, but they can spread disease when they encounter food. According to experts, a clean home is not an attractive place for fleas. Watery areas is also considered a breeding place for fleas, all water should be mopped up immediately. Check pipes and faucets to make sure there are no leaks. If pesticides are the route you would like to take, use the less harmful natural ones. Other natural home remedies for fleas are coriander, bay leaves, dill, lemon peel, and cloves. Placing these items in cabinets and cupboards will keep fleas away from infesting these areas where food is stored.

Pets can appear less attractive to fleas if their given diets rich in essential fatty acids which strengthens their immune system. It is also essential that your pets bedding be washed on a regular basis. Keeping fleas away from your home and your pet is possible by following these simple steps.

Microwave Treatment Termite Detection Tool Advantage

!±8± Microwave Treatment Termite Detection Tool Advantage

A very important step of microwave termite treatment is detection and precise location of the entire termite colony to be treated. Many areas of termite infestation are one hundred percent visible and clearly noticeable without the use of any termite detection tools.

The uses of termite colony detection tools are of great assistance in isolating the precise location of hidden termites primarily when the evidence of infestation leads into inaccessible non-visual areas.

The main advantage of knowing the precise location of a hidden termite colony allows for efficient and thorough microwave treatment to be applied directly at the true source without wasting time and resources by treating adjacent areas that are not infested.

Without the use of a termite detection tool at inaccessible treat areas, a treatment may take two to three times longer and include more applied microwave applications to insure the entire coverage of the estimated target colony location.

Several different types of termite detection tools are available for use. There are infrared devices for detecting the heat given off by termites within wall voids. Unfortunately the infrared device also detects other heat sources that may over shadow the heat of termites.

There are microwave detection devices that emit radar waves through walls and show the findings on a digital screen similar to that of a fish finder. They require costly monthly calibration and lease fees but do seem to detect well.

There are also borescopes that allow looking into wall areas through a flexible fiber optic tube that contains an internal light emitting source. Some models even provide video screen viewing and recording. Borescopes work well but are limited to evasive application use.

A recent technological new comer is a CO2 termite detection device. It can be purchased for a reasonable price and is one hundred percent effective in detecting termites. It has been receiving great reviews from users and is claimed to be additionally effective in detecting bed bugs.

The advantage of termite detection devices allow for surgically precise termite colony eradication when used as a microwave termite treatment aid. They also assist in determining the effectiveness of a prior treatment performed by checking for evidence of live infestation where it should no longer exist.

Snake Repellents and Other Ways to Keep Snakes Away

!±8± Snake Repellents and Other Ways to Keep Snakes Away

Harmless or not, snakes are repulsive and a source of fright to most people. If you see one in your backyard, flower pots, by the poolside, and God forbid, your kitchen or the bedroom, what you should do and what you should not do are some of the issues we are going to look at.

If you cannot identify the species or do not know whether it is venomous or not, don't take any chances. Call a professional who knows how to get rid of snakes.

Repelling snakes

What is now important is to find out how and why it came; with a view to preventing a recurrence. Did it come after a rodent like a mouse or did it come for any other food like what is in your garbage collecting cans? Have you been keeping them open inviting all kinds of pests home?

Many snake repellents can be used effectively to keep snakes away, especially if you live in a snake prone area. Snakes have a smell receptor called Jacobson's organ which is extra sensory in the perception of smells. The odor and the harsh taste the repellent discharges almost anesthetizes the snake making it lazy and weak causing it to make a hurried retreat before things could become too hot for it.

Clean up the Mess

Snakes will not easily come to a house garden unless for food, shelter or as a hiding place from a potential danger. As some preventive snake repellent measures, clean all the mess in your garden and make it orderly and fit more for human habitation than for snakes. This will involve keeping the grass short and regular tidying up and disposal of all garbage collected without much delay.

Keep all the garbage cans, other cartons and recycling boxes etc. closed so that snakes will not be attracted to them for food, shelter or hiding.

Recurring Snake Arrivals

If you are living in a highly snake prone location with a problem of recurrent invasions from snakes, there are snake collectors who would be more than glad to come and help you free of charge by capturing the snake alive and removing it. You may contact a local branch of a herpetological society for advice and assistance. This is one good way if you've been wondering how to get rid of blackheads.

Remove it Yourself

If you identify the snake species and are positive that it is not a venomous type, and as long as you don't feel squeamish about it, it is rather simple to catch a snake alive and release it elsewhere to a natural habitat far away from residential and commercial areas.

Leave it alone

If you are generally the lucky type, there is a small probability that the snake you have got within your premises is a black racer, in which case it is a blessing in disguise; because it devours all kinds of venomous snakes! If it is a black racer, you just let it be in your backyard without allowing it to come too close for comfort. It's a natural snake repellent, after all!

Tips to Get Rid of Mice

!±8± Tips to Get Rid of Mice

Mice are normally seen as much cuter than rats, but this does not mean that they do not carry germs or pose a health risk to you and your family. If you have children, mice can be of particular concern. Mice will usually be drawn to the kitchen area.

Mice can gnaw through furniture and wooden and more vulnerable parts of the house such as the skirting boards and plastic wires of electrical products. Electrical cables prove to be a real problem, because this can create a fire hazard, and the fire services have regularly reported that mice are a big problem in causing fires in the home.

You will know if you have a mouse problem if you can hear scratching noises behind the walls and ceilings. They have a very unique smell, almost like ammonia, and they also leave droppings, which are small and dark. If mice build a nest, they use shredded material within homes like newspaper, and hide in small, concealed places such as behind fridges and in fibreboard.

There are ways of getting rid of mice but, firstly, households should work on prevention, and discourage mice from coming and nesting in the home. Because of their soft skeletons, mice can get through very small holes that at first you may not notice. Therefore, it is necessary to seal holes in all parts of the exterior. Another idea is to put bristles strips along the bottom of the doors. These can be bought at DIY and hardware stores. Do not leave food out at any time and be sure to wipe surfaces that food has been in contact with.

Mice are attracted to all food, so this advice applies everywhere. It is most advisable to clean under areas such as fridges and sofas on a regular basis, to ensure any dropped food is taken away and so does not attract mice.

If your house is prone to attracting mice, ultrasonic repellers can be used as they give out a sound that deters mice, but at the same time cannot be heard by people. It should be noted that this is a preventative method rather than one that will get rid of mice that are already inhabiting a home.

A small infestation can usually be dealt with using mouse traps. There are live-capture mouse traps that are more humane than the old-fashioned wooden ones, though these are still quite popular. Chocolate and peanut butter are often the best baits, rather than the infamous cheese.

While amateur DIY products are a cost-effective way to control small infestations of mice, professional pest control is required for more established mouse colonies, or where there is a repeated infestation.

Professional pest controllers will normally operate a 24-hour response service and can be quite flexible in order to suit you. Their technicians will usually be highly trained in the area of pest control, and so it is worth listening to what they have to say about future prevention.

All About Silverfish

!±8± All About Silverfish

Silverfish are small, wingless insects sometimes called carpet sharks, paramites, or fishmoths. They get the name silverfish from their light silver colour. It's movements are also like a fish swimming and they move very fast. They are usually one half inch to one inch long. They have two small eyes and long antennae. The body is wide at the front and then tapers down to become narrow at the end. They are born a white colour and turn silver looking as they age. They can live for two to eight years and can live for a year or longer without eating.

Silverfish like to eat things such as glue, dandruff, sugar, paper, hair, carpet, linen, and dead insects. These items have polysaccharides and dextrin in them that the hungry silverfish feed off. If they are really hungry they will eat leather and synthetic fibres. They also eat book bindings and this can cause damage to books. They like to get behind wallpaper to eat the glue because it contains dextrin.

They like to live in bathrooms, basements, attics, and garages or anywhere that is really moist and dark with a humidity in the range between 75% to 95%. This is why they are found in boxes of books stored in warm, damp garages or attics. Silverfish can be found in the Pacific area, Europe, North America, Japan, Asia, and Australia.

Humans do not like silverfish because of their destruction to items such as books but they do not carry any disease among them to transport to humans. The female lays less than fifty eggs in small places and the eggs will hatch anywhere in the time frame of two weeks and two months. In its lifetime a female silverfish will not lay 100 eggs. It takes about three to four months for the silverfish to go from egg to adult.

To get rid of silverfish find any sources of moisture and remove it such as leaky drains, water pipes and get rid of any standing water. Using a dehumidifier to remove moisture from the air can also be a help. To get them from any hiding places put the narrowest nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and vacuum them up. Keep dried foods up and stored in tight containers to keep the silverfish for eating them before you do. Get rid of any piles of newspapers or magazines you may have piling up. You can also use sprays and powders that are specifically made to get rid of silverfish.

Pet Flea Control - Effective Flea Extermination Tips

!±8± Pet Flea Control - Effective Flea Extermination Tips

Fleas are external parasites and are very common phenomenon in dogs and cats. When your home or your pets are invaded by them, it becomes an uphill task in getting rid of them. The first place you need to target when stricken by these frustrating external parasites is your home, and your pets which are natural breeding grounds for them. If either one are not cleaned up, your flea extermination activities will meet with futile efforts.

The reason why flea extermination is so difficult is due to the very hardy persistence, what with and average lifespan of 2 to 3 months, being able to survive without food for more than 100 days. Topping this record is yet another, with the female flea capable of consuming 15 times it body weight in blood and lays 50 eggs on a daily basis. It is no wonder that infestation takes any home at break neck speed.

These external parasite bites can cause agony to both domesticated animals and the unsuspecting child, giving rise to pain for two weeks with a single bite. Their bites transmit Flea Allergy Dermatitis or FAD to animals, causing allergic reaction from the flea saliva.

Understand that once you are stricken with flea infestation, you would have to undertake the long and painful task of getting rid of them as soon as possible. But bear in mind that this cannot be achieved overnight, and is a full ledge war until the last one is dead.

When cleaning your home for flea extermination, you should take special care never to overlook any piece of furniture, every nook and crevasse must be thoroughly cleaned out. Keep cleaning your home, every dog or cat house and bedding, couch, sofa, carpet, bedding, linen, drapes, and mop all tiles and flooring with disinfectant. Use flea bombs and foggers as and when required. Use wet cloth to clean all furniture in the house, as the eggs are dry, it is easier to pick them up when you swipe them with wet cloth.

Also, vacuum the entire house thoroughly and remember to disposed of the vacuum bags immediately, and burn it if you have to. If left unattended, your vacuum cleaner will become the hot bed for flea infestation especially the warm environment within the machine which serves as incubator.

For your exteriors like decks, deck furniture, patios, it is best to use a hot water power pressure washer with the right kind of detergent for cleaning. You can also use a steam pressure washer to clean drapes, carpets, window and door nets.

If you should feel that such extensive cleaning is too much for you, there are always the professional cleaners to do flea extermination for you.
